Are you a “real college?
Aviva Institute is registered as a private institution with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education pursuant to sections 136A.61 to 136A.71 Registration is not an endorsement of the institution. Registration does not mean that credits earned at the institution can be transferred to all other institutions.
Are you accredited?
The program was designed to meet the standards for accreditation from Department of Education approved agencies that specialize in Direct Entry Midwifery and Distance Education. Our development team includes staff who served on the Board of Directors for MEAC, the Board of Directors of NARM, and various state licensing boards, as well as distance education specialists. However we are a brand new school. While we are applying for accreditation right away, it is a time consuming process, taking about two years; there is no guarantee that we will be accredited or pre accredited from all agencies prior to student graduation. In the unlikely event that occurs, we will assist students in the PEP process to meet the NARM criteria for CPM.
As new school, how do I know the quality of your education?
Although we are a brand new school, our development team brings over thirty years of experience training midwives, including the operation of four different midwifery schools. Visit our Staff page to see the qualifications of the administrative staff, the pages for both Academic and Clinical Faculty. However this is not to say there will not be bugs, changes, and occasional glitches. We hope the first year group is as patient with us as they would be with any mother with a new baby.
Is auditing courses an option?
Students may audit courses if space is available, as long as the prerequisites are met. Courses are registered and paid for in full, during regular registration. There is no credit given for a course that has been audited, and a grade of “AU will be assigned. Students who register to audit are expected to attend class and fully participate in the course. They are not required to take tests, but can if they wish. The instructor is not required to grade papers or give feedback to students who are auditing a course. To change from a grade to an audit, students must apply in writing within the first week of a six week course, and the first four days of a three week course.
There is also an option for non matriculating students to take course on an individual basis, as credit courses. There is an additional fee for non matriculating students.
Are there on-site courses I need to attend?
No, all academics are online, your clinical practice is in your home community
