Aviva Institute
offers exceptional midwifery education in addition to training for doulas, childbirth educators, lactation specialists and related professionals.
We offer both short term training as well as certificate and a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery.

Our community-based model provides all academic coursework 100% online, with clinical (hands-on) training in the student’s home community, with an approved preceptor, or in one of our many affiliated clinical sites.

Learn from the best. Because we are not limited by geography, we have extraordinary faculty from all over the country. The wide range of backgrounds and philosophies allows students a broad base of knowledge, wisdom, and experience from which to learn. Our staff has over 30 years experience training midwives, operating midwifery schools as well as serving on national certification and accreditation boards.

Midwifery programs are based on the MANA Core Competencies, are designed to prepare students for the Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential, and to meet or exceed US state licensing or certification requirements in these states.

At Aviva Institute, we are passionate about birth, optimal health, and natural healing. Aviva means life. We teach the essential components – birth, health, and family – to make a difference in others’ lives.

Our programs:

  • Are Flexible and Family Friendly
  • Embrace Holistic Philosophy
  • Promote Learner Involvement
  • Provide a High Level of Support
  • Utilize a Highly Interactive Learning Environment
  • Support the Midwives Model of Care

Our community-based distance education model excels beyond traditional classrooms. Hands-on experience is integrated with academics.

We promote learner involvement though the use of constructivism, the belief that people actively construct new knowledge as they interact with their environments.

Students are not expected to learn on their own. We provide a high degree of faculty interaction and peer support.
