Approved Preceptors are certified or licensed health care providers that agree to supervise some of student's clinical experience. They have met our qualifications and have agreed to follow our clinical teaching guidelines and evaluation process. They may be midwives with out-of-hospital practices whom the student can attend prenatal, births and postpartum, or be other practitioners able to provide specific clinical skills, like taking blood pressure. Affiliated Clinical Sites are Licensed Birth Centers with Approved Preceptors whom have met additional criteria in the standards of Aviva Institute.

PLEASE NOTE: Do Not contact preceptors directly; their websites are linked so you can check their location, practice style just for your information only. Preceptors are very busy midwives who do not have time for inquiries from prospective students. Unless they are on the teaching faculty, they can't answer questions about Aviva Institute. Your clinical practice generally starts after your first year of academics, and you must be referred by the Clinical Director.
If there is no one listed in your area, it does not mean we do not have access to one or cannot help you find a preceptor. We are in the process getting preceptors approved and listed on the site. Check here for preceptor qualifications. In some cases, you may have to travel to get enough of certain kinds of experiences to meet graduation requirements. Some students chose to go to Affiliated Clinical Sites in order to get more births in a shorter period of time. Additional fees may be required for these sites.
